Hello, as of recently MS outlook has been having typing delays on a few different users machines. I am scratching my head as how to resolve it. I have disabled hardware graphics acceleration, disabled animations in outlook, made sure they had a fast network connection, did profile repairs, they are also using cached mode. That’s usually a processor issue in my experience.

Are they running reasonably capable systems? If so, is your antimalware doing a scan when this happens? To my knowledge, the anti-malware service is always enabled on our network since we have very high priority assets to protect.

Is there a way to work around the CPU pull of that? It should always be enabled, but if it’s actively scanning something, it will be using more CPU cycles than if it’s just passively looking for something to scan. Does it matter that the machines having the issue are Windows 7 Professional and any of our windows 10 pro machines are not having the issue?

Does it matter that the machines having the issue are Windows 7 Pro and any of our windows 10 pro machines are not having the issue? That does give me a solution, albeit one you probably won’t like. Upgrade the problematic systems to windows Other than that, try having the resource monitor open to catch what’s happening when the issue occurs. I understand a reboot is always an option, I am just trying to find a non-work stopping option.

Our reboot process takes about 6 minutes due to multi-factor authentication and anti-malware group policies that load to keep our machines safe. Sounds like you have a business case to update the machines in question and make sure they have SSD in them if 10 minutes of downtime is that costly.

Don’t get me wrong, I still appreciate your advice and input. I am just trying to find an advanced solution that will fix it. I even spent hours calling and chat messaging Microsoft in attempts to find a resolution. The strange thing is when I boot outlook in safe mode it runs just fine. So I disabled all non-essential add-ins. But even doing that only helped just a little bit.

Disabled add-ins were; Skype meeting add-in, outlook social connector, one-note notes, Microsoft VBA, and Microsoft Access data collection. Your issue sounds different than mine. In my cases only the one reboot solved the problem and it never returned.

Fully patched and just MS outlook yes, basically what happens is after a lot of work happening between browsers and applications outlook eventually delays it’s typing. Sometimes to the point where it crashes. But it turns to molasses not permanently slow.

Part of me wonders if at a point our firewall blocks the ping initially to MS servers until it can pick up the new location. They seem to have servers all over. I know this is an old thread, but I thought I’d chime in since I have recently experience the same issue and have solved it – very simply. After some research I found a post somewhere that suggested that un-checking one simple checkbox would solve the problem Go to System Properties – Advanced – Performance – Settings – Visual Effects – uncheck the top box called “Animate controls and elements inside windows.

I’ve seen exactly this when using a 40w psu in a machine that needs 65w psu. Modern hardware is odd like this. Caleb wrote: Jrx wrote: That’s usually a processor issue in my experience.

Microsoft Office expert. Happened to me last week – Outlook only. Reboot took care of it. It would be one thing if we had downtime, but in our industry, every minute truly matters. Don’t know what to tell you except that’s what fixed it for me. Just Outlook not Word or anything else If you reboot are they OK for a while then it turns to molasses or permanently slow?

Typing in Outlook when composing new messages or calendar entries was laggy. So I tried it and it works. No reboot required. When I opened Outlook again, the lagginess was gone. Hope that helps someone. This topic has been locked by an administrator and is no longer open for commenting. Read these next

As soon as a document is longer than about words, there is a terrible typing lag, i. Both the causes and effects on users. The typing lag was still an issue. However, when I put the document back on the share, and changed Word Options to put the Autorecover files on a local drive, it appears to have fixed the lag issue. Documents are still stored on the share, but Autorecover files are on the local drive.

Word is configured to autosave every 10 minutes by default. My guess is that when Word is periodically saves Autorecover files, it is impacted by the slow server share, and placing them on the local drive eliminates that issue.

Autosaving goes on while one is typing, which makes it more noticeable. I have no idea why an autosave that happens every 10 minutes creates a constant typing lag, and I am not positive about a causal relationship between the location of the Autorecover file folder and the lag.
