Remove Autodesk related registry keys! Restart your computer Self-explanatory, this is just to make sure that all changes to the registry keys are set. Install Autodesk software that is not 3DS Max or Maya To ensure that we install the autodesk licensing system correctly we need to install something else, i installed Autodesk MotionBuilder and had no installer errors in the process.

– Installation Error: “Some products failed to install” Fix – MAE3

So from what I’m reading, it looks like the next step is to disable the anti-virus temporarily, and attempt to reinstall. I’ll try that later this evening.

So I went ahead and uninstalled everything related to Max I then updated everything including windows. I shut down my anti-virus, and started up the installation again. Unfortunately, in the same place during installation, the same error message popped up, and Max will not open when clicked on.

Again it shows that the Arnold renderer is not installed. Although my windows updates shows that there isn’t any more updates, when I restart my computer and open up the updates page, it often tells me that the Windows 10 update failed. I am attaching those screencaps as well. I am currently running Windows 7. And started the whole process over, including clearing out my temp folder this time. Unfortunately I had the same results.

He also suggests trying it over again in diagnostics mode as a true administrator. I’m not sure how to do that, but will try to find tutorials on that tomorrow.

I am pretty sure that the error is not the problem here, Arnold failing to install is not the issue here. I have removed all Autodesk software many times now and nothing changes, same errors, regardless of what i do. Installing it to different drives and even upgrading to the latest Windows 10 Insider build changes nothing, i cannot use any Autodesk software and this is a MAJOR issue for me.

Got 3DS Max working as expected now, what a mess to figure out. I don’t know exactly why all Autodesk software goes into this weird state, but here i my guess what happens. If 3DS Max is installed on systems that Arnold has issues installing on like mine it seems , the installer will throw an error, but it will install all other software related to 3DS Max, however something is not configured correctly after the botched install, namely the software activation system.

This in turn causes all other Autodesk software to fail authenticating after being installed. The solution is to uninstall and delete everything Autodesk related, make sure to clean the appdata folder for Autodesk files and delete registry keys related to Autodesk software.

When all that is done DO NOT install 3DS Max before you have installed some other Autodesk software like Motion Builder and make sure it launches, this seems to fix the issues with the authentication system being installed incorrectly. These are all the autodesk products installed on my computer. You’re telling me that I have to uninstall all of this? Just making sure that I understand you correctly. How would I go about doing that exactly, where are these things located?

I never go into registry keys. Are you telling me that none of the software that I had installed on my computer which I just listed above, will not work now because of my attempt to install Max ? I’m wondering if all of this is worth it, and if maybe I should abandon Autodesk, and get into Cinema 4D instead. What are the chances that Autodesk might fix this problem, and if so, how soon?

I’ve never had this problem with installing their products previously. It seems crazy to me that Autodesk would allow a problem like this with basic installation to persist for a long period of time without fixing it. Sorry for the late reply, been really busy with a ton of stuff. This one is pretty simple, use the “Add or remove programs” application in Windows 10 to uninstall all Autodesk related software, also be aware of the Arnold plugins that may have been installed, they are not labeled as Autodesk directly in that menu.

Open the Windows Registry Editor by searching for “regedit” using the normal Windows 10 search. To ensure that we install the autodesk licensing system correctly we need to install something else, i installed Autodesk MotionBuilder and had no installer errors in the process.

I did this through the Autodesk Desktop App. Hope this proves useful, i certainly had some fun four hours or so trying to figure this problem out.

Then install and after you can manually execute the “pitreg. Both solutions seem a bit daunting for me. I’m really more of a software user, and I have a little trepidation going into things like registry keys, because to be honest, I don’t really know what I’m looking at in those deeper folders.

Also, I have previous versions of Max that are working just fine, so I’m inclined to wait till Autodesk corrects this problem, rather than go into deep folders and potentially do something disastrous. But if I feel particularly adventurous, and have a lot of time on my hands, I may try to follow these instructions, so thank you very much for posting them!

This step is particularly troublesome for me, because it seems like to go through this, I would have to uninstall all of the previous versions of Max from my computer, all of which are working just fine. So all of the trouble I’ve been having was with installing Max on my desktop, which is running Windows 7.

I went to install the other seat I have for Max on my laptop, which is running Windows 10, and everything went just fine. Would that mean that I would have to uninstall all previous versions of Max that I have installed as well? And any other Autodesk software such as Mudbox and Motion Builder? Just wondering if anyone might know that answer to my question in my last post. Still hoping to get some feedback o this. Error and other install and un install issues can be solved.
